This book focuses on core design and methods for design and analysis. It is based on advances made in nuclear power utilization and computational methods over the past 40 years, covering core design of boiling water reactors and pressurized water reactors, as well as fast reactors and high-temperature gas-cooled reactors. The objectives of this book are to help graduate and advanced undergraduate students to understand core design and analysis, and to serve as a background reference for engineers actively working in light water reactors. Methodologies for core design and analysis, together with physical descriptions, are emphasized.

Patra is a Senior Research Scholar in the Department of Mathematics, National Institute of Technology, Rourkela, Odisha, India. After completion of her Master’s degree, she had been working on the BRNS research project entitled ‘Fractional calculus applied to describe reactor kinetics and flux mapping’ funded by the BRNS, BARC, Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India, under the supervision of Dr. Santanu Saha Ray who was the Principal Investigator of the aforesaid BRNS project. Recently, she has been awarded Senior Research Fellowship (SRF) by Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Government of India, and is continuing her research work under the supervision of Dr. Saha Ray is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics, National Institute of Technology, Rourkela.

He has more than 12 years of research experience. He is a member of SIAM and AMS. He was the Principal Investigator of BRNS, BARC projects, and also DST project of Government of India. He had acted as a lead Guest Editor of a special issue in the Hindawi journal Abstract and Applied Analysis.

He has published numerous papers in various international journals of repute like Transaction ASME Journal of Applied Mechanics, Annals of Nuclear Energy, Physica Scripta, Applied Mathematics and Computation, Communication in Nonlinear Science and Numerical Simulation, etc. He authored a book entitled Graph Theory with Algorithms and Its Applications: In Applied Science and Technology published by Springer. He has several papers on topics of fractional calculus, mathematical modelling, mathematical physics, stochastic model, integral equation, wavelet transforms and others.
