Strategy games abuse WWII the most, since there are many great battles that can be simulated in a variety of different ways, not to mention the fact that you can always add or eliminate some elements to change the situation entirely. Play as the Allies, the Axis, or the Soviets Frontline Attack: War Over Europe is a real-time strategy game that allows you to experience the war from everyone’s point of view and try to change the outcome of various historical battles, by using your own strategies instead. Hence, you can play with the German forces, the Allies, or the Soviet army, depending on the scenario and the campaign you choose to recreate. The game is not a real RTS, in the sense that it does not feature any kind of base-building or resource gathering mechanics. Instead, you get your troops at the start of the mission and you have use them wisely in order to tackle the requested objectives.
Naturally, you sometimes receive reinforcements after each completed objective, in order to augment your forces and be able to handle the next task. Shaky mechanics and dull gameplay Unfortunately, it is rather difficult to have fun with these missions, because the gameplay is not as exciting as it should be, when you consider the fact that you get to command powerful tanks and a few infantry divisions as well. Most of the fault is with the mechanics themselves, since the pathfinding is flawed, the balancing is way off in some cases and the missions are not very riveting either. The slow game pace might not be a problem in other titles, but here it just gives you the time to notice all the flaws and plenty of chances to change your mind when it comes to continuing with the campaign. Moreover, although the graphics engine is quite decent and the game looks well, the user interface is not very friendly and the minimap is just horrible to look at, or make use of. Plenty of design mistakes to annoy you In the end, Frontline Attack: War Over Europe is kind of a mixed bag of goods at the moment, since it is not exactly bad, but it makes tremendous efforts to make the experience extremely annoying.
